Urban Songs reimagines early 20th-century Cretan urban folk songs through a participatory performance based on Musical Chairs, linking historical and cultural themes to the present.
Chairs were arranged in concentric circles, with performers and audience members interacting through poses inspired by Cretan folk dances. Visual and auditory cues guided participation, connecting viewers to the multicultural history of Chania.
COVID-19 restrictions limited physical interaction, prompting a focus on visual and auditory communication. The work emphasized the preservation of marginalized collective memory networks while engaging participants in an immersive experience of cultural self-determination.
