Introduction

PLENO is a durational performance addressing themes of identity, nationalism, and the patriarchal structures embedded in Greek society. Through the repetitive act of washing dishes, this work transforms a private activity into a public critique.

Drawing on interdisciplinary research and literary sources, the performance explores the imposition of Greek national identity on Thessaloniki, historically a multi-ethnic city. Each plate symbolized the enforced narrative of "Macedonia's Greekness."

Soundscapes composed of live singing and archival recordings enriched the audience experience, reflecting the city’s complex cultural intersections. The performance also addressed the state's role in constructing nationalist ideologies, often at the expense of marginalized identities, including women and minorities.
