Introduction

For this adaptation of Ersi Sotiropoulou’s novel, I designed a stage that embodies the liminal space of a waiting room, capturing the characters' sense of anticipation and transition.

Result

Set in a black box theatre, the stage design emphasized subtraction to highlight the plurality of spaces referenced in the novel. The waiting room concept symbolized a threshold between realities, offering a dynamic backdrop for character development.

Essential design elements included a ticket-dispensing machine, wall notices, and advertising-style posters, which subtly reflected the characters’ emotional states. The waiting room became a metaphorical space for introspection and transformation, aligning with the director’s vision of exploring the characters’ liminality.
